Literacy centers

This week we are finishing Sunset of the Sabertooth! We have shifted to reading 2 chapters on Mondays and Wednesdays. On our reading days we don't write, leaving more time for other literacy activities before lunch. We will now write on days that we don't read, requiring children to remember the chapters from the day before (we are working on strengthening our memories!). On Fridays we will read one chapter, write, then work on a project while I conference with individual students. We will go through their work from the week, reflect on how it went, and think of a new learning goal for the following week!

Here are a few of our literacy centers from this week!
Ask how we play "Woolly Mammoth" for sight word practice (it is like "Moose" in math). You can make this game for practice at home!

We are bundled up to dramatize Sunset of the Sabertooth!

We are playing Who Am I? (It is like the game Headbandz). One partner puts a card in his headband (this week something about the ice age or caves) and the other gives clues to get their partner to guess who they are!

Snow! We are making "snow" with shaving cream and baking soda!

Silly Sentences. We are practicing decoding words and deciding if they make real or silly sentences.

Creative Writing. We are writing stories about what life would be like in the Ice Age.
