Math centers!

Here are some of our math centers from this week!

Where is Peanut? We are practicing identifying and reading bigger numbers. We hide the mouse under a number. Our buddy has to guess which number it is under by asking "is it under __?" We have to find the one our buddy guessed and flip it over to reveal whether or not peanut is under there!

The kids (and teachers!) have had so much fun making clay bowls and glazing them. Students will each take home one of their bowls and donate the other to the Art.Food.Community fundraiser to benefit Arlington Eats.

About Art.Food.Community:

Eileen de Rosas and Melody Wolfe Thomas,  ceramic artists, educators, and Thompson parents, have for six months  dreamed and planned for an arts integration and enrichment project.  With grants from the Arlington Education Foundation and the Arlington Cultural Council,  Melody and Eileen are bringing our kids and our community to a common table.
Art.Food.Community is a community integration project that will give Thompson students the chance to learn about and create pottery with Melody and Eileen.  Each class will receive two sessions of a Ceramic Arts Integration workshop specifically tailored to their curriculum by the grade level teachers. During these sessions, each student will make two bowls that will then be professionally fired and glazed– one to keep and one to donate to Arlington EATS.
The 400 handmade bowls donated to Arlington EATS will be the showcase of our fundraiser on May 16th.  The community is invited  for a meal for a $25 donation to EATS.  Each $25 ticket includes a handmade bowl of your choice.  The bowls serve as a reminder of all of those in our community who don’t have enough to eat.
