Japan!

We loved learning all about ninjas, ancient Japan, and modern Japan last week! We learned that ninjas have to learn the art of "stealth." They train with their ninja masters to be good at climbing, running, swimming, and camouflaging! We also learned about Japanese culture and traditions. We learned about Boys day and Girls day (we made carp flags and decorated dolls) and learned the rules for Japanese tea ceremonies (they are very peaceful and relaxing, and the guests take of their shoes and wait patiently while the host carefully makes and serves the tea).

Here are some of the facts we wrote in our fact books!

Here are some of our literacy centers from last week!
We listened to The Relatives Came and interviewed each other on our iPads about our favorite parts.

We are working on strengthening our working memory by playing Look & Remember with a buddy.

Word Building. We are making words using the word patterns _aw and _ail.

We are using our sense of touch to figure out what is in each sock, the recording our guesses on our recording sheets.

At penmanship center we practice writing a message with our best letter formation on a dry-erase sheet and then create a product using our best handwriting. These are our New Years cards.

When we finish our center we pick a "can-do" activity to work on while the other groups finish up. A favorite can-do is learn-to-draw!
