-       Background Knowledge for Lions at Lunchtime (the African Savanna)

     ·      Science: Tide pools

-       Subtraction
-       Subitizing (identifying the numbers in a small set without counting)

Notes/Reminders
     ·      May 25th: No School
     ·     June 8th: Tide Pool field trip (rain date June 9th)
     ·      June 11th: Family Picnic (rain date June 12th)

Things to work on at home
We are working on being able to do these things by the end of the year:
     ·      Count to 100 by tens and ones
     ·      Write our first and last names with appropriate uppercase and lowercase letters
     ·      Identify one more and one less than numbers to 21
     ·      Read and write our K sight words

Conversation Starters
     ·      How do you play Domino Compare in math?
     ·      What do you already know about the African Savanna, or what are you wondering?
     ·      Tell me about the different types of seaweed that you made for your tide pool diorama.
     ·      How do you play the clapping game “Bow Wow Wow”?

Math!

This week in math:

We are measuring different sized cowboy hats with cubes

Addition Connect Four

Practicing reading tally marks

Domino compare. We each flip over a domino and add our two sides together, then decide who's domino has more dots 

Pete The Cat subtraction. Oh no! Pete is losing buttons! He starts with 6 and our buddy takes some away. We have to figure out how many he has left.

Aquarium Visit!

We loved our visit from the New England Aquarium! We learned a bit about tide pools and tide pool animals, then we got to touch some! We are so excited for our field trip to explore the tidepools in June!





Literacy

We are having fun learning about the Wild West! Here are some of our literacy centers from last week and this week:
At Penmanship we are practicing full sentences with lowercase letters (and learning to draw cacti!)

We are also observing cacti!

We are practicing making words with our word patterns

We are writing Wild West stories using pictures as a prompt.
